One of the things I really enjoy doing while I'm in Singapore is sewing and quilting. I like to get up in the morning and head for my quiet space, the sewing studio, which is in Troy's extra bedroom. There I get absorbed in designing, cutting and stitching together blocks for various quilt tops that I've got in progress. I bought a small sewing machine when I got here and commandeered a desk, chair and fan from Troy.
And the sound that I commonly hear in the mornings (besides the whirring of the sewing machine) is the soothing swish, swish, swish of the neighbors engaged in their morning ritual of sweeping their patios with bristle brooms. I love this sound and find it to be very relaxing. My blood pressure is down, along with my weight!
My design wall shows elements of several things that I am working on. The small 5 inch squares go to a DEAR JANE quilt that has 13 rows of 13 5 inch blocks. That is part of row 11 on the design wall --- 2 more rows to go & then the triangle shaped borders. The Asian blocks are part of a sampler quilt that I am "designing as I go". For this project there is some paper piecing, some appliqué, and some machine piecing. Still not sure where it is headed, so I keep it on the design wall so that I can contemplate my next block!
Here are the pressing stand and the cutting mat station. The basket on the floor holds fat quarters for Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt that began on the day after Thanksgiving and ends on New Year's Eve. I am making the mystery quilt blocks as the clues come out on Friday (which is Saturday here).
The room has really good light, an easy to keep clean floor, and is just large enough to allow me to work comfortably
I have completed one quilt top since I've been here. This pattern and fabric was a kit that I bought at Fat Quarter's quilt shop in Vista, CA a while back and never had the time to actually make it. Now DONE!!!
Right now, I am trying to get the Christmas stockings made for the family. We will be spending Christmas in Australia with Ann and plan on having a low key Christmas with just presents in our stockings! Maybe I'll decorate MY stocking with a mini-quilt!!

Work in progress. Yes, those ARE barbells on Troy's stocking! I'm thinking of adding holly leaves to make it look a bit more festive- HA! |
Each stocking is lined rather than quilted, so you really have to make each stocking TWICE! I better get back to finishing these stockings as there are only 19 days until Christmas🎄
